We are a student club of the University of Melbourne all about writing, reading, and performing creative works.

Ultimately, it's a club about storytelling, self-expression, socialising, and - of course - fun!
CLUB AIMS
1
To provide an inclusive environment and a place to create, collaborate, and experiment with new writing endeavours.

To discuss the works of writers from every field of creative writing such as song writing, screenwriting, novels, playwriting, short stories, poems, memoirs, personal essays and more.

To offer the opportunity of free expression for all written word creatives in the University of Melbourne.

To teach emerging writers the attributes and life skills that can improve their work ethic and have a healthier approach to creative writing in terms of discipline and self-care.

To help students master the written word and nurture their talent and passion for creative writing.

CLUB MEMBERSHIP
Become an official member* of CLAWS by signing up through one of the official avenues below!

You'll be able to participate in CLAWS's weekly workshops, writing competitions and arts events. Additionally, you'll be entitled to a free issue of our bi-annual publication Inkspot each release. You'll be invited to CALW's hub on discord where our vast community share, collaborate, network and provide writing and publishing opportunities to one another.

As a member, you are invited to participate in our general meetings and elections, of which you can vote and campaign yourself.
​
The membership fee for 2025 is $8, which covers you until the beginning of Semester 1 2026.

*Note: To be an official member, you must be a student of the University of Melbourne and have a valid student ID. However, non-students are welcome still welcome to sign up, wherein you will be associate member, with the same privileges except that you cannot run for the executive committee and you do not count to meet quorum.
